Reasons Not to Undertake a Hair Transplant

Before Diagnosing

The Value of Diagnosis

Many patients suffering from hair loss decide to undergo a Hair Transplant without having previously undergone the necessary diagnostic tests. Of course, this is the wrong choice as proper diagnosis is the basis for the definitive treatment of hair loss and moreover, it can work pro-actively because in some cases proper treatment significantly reduces the problem by preventing or delaying Hair Transplantation.

Hair transplantation is not a panacea

Hair loss is not the same for everyone because it occurs in different forms and because of many causes. Hair loss on the scalp is distinguished in steps and, depending on its size, is called Alopecia. In most cases, hair loss is due to Androgenic Alopecia (Hereditary Hair loss). The diagnosis of hair loss determines both the exact causes of hair loss and its possible future development. The results of the diagnostic tests are a powerful weapon to fight hair loss either through treatment or through Hair Transplantation.

#2

The donor area may be … poor

Hair transplantation is performed by extracting healthy hair follicles from the donor area which is the area at the back of the head where the hair is genetically programmed by nature to never fall out. The hair follicles are then implanted in the top of the head, where hair loss has occurred. This means that a patient with a major hair loss problem will need more hair follicles to cover the bald area than someone who is simply thinning. Therefore, the number of hair follicles that can be exported is one of the most important elements in the design of Hair Transplantation. For this reason, the diagnostic procedure involves recording the quantity and quality of the scalp as well as trichometry in both the donor and the recipient area.

You must plan ahead with a perspective

The transplanted hair grows and behaves normally and never falls out. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the others as hair loss can continue causing further hair loss. The correct diagnosis helps to develop the appropriate treatment plan for each patient, with the aim of shielding existing hair. Hair transplantation, if necessary, can be combined with other complimentary hair loss treatments, which will help both to germinate new hair more quickly and protect those that already exist, in order to achieve the best result forever. Do not forget, the plan of Hair Transplantation should have a broad perspective.

#4

Are you ready psychologically?

Hair loss is directly related to psychology. According to scientific researches, hair loss has a catalytic effect on the patient’s psychology while vice versa, bad psychology is a very common cause of hair loss. For this reason, before any hair loss treatment such as Hair Transplantation, it is necessary to perform the DHI Psychological Test. The new Hair Psychology Test aims to detect any psychopathological manifestations in patients suffering from hair loss in order to provide them with appropriate therapeutic help, if necessary. The Hair Psychology Test was developed by DHI Global Medical Group in collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Hair loss can be in your DNA

It is scientifically proven that Oxidative Stress is responsible for a number of serious conditions such as Asthma, Cancer and Diabetes Mellitus. Indeed, recent research has shown that Oxidative Stresses are also directly associated with hair loss. The DSA Diagnostic System includes the new DNA Hair Biology Test that performs a DNA Test in the hair follicles to detect potential DNA lesions due to Oxidative Stresses. The DNA Hair Biology Test was developed by DHI Global Medical Group in collaboration with the Laboratory of Histology and Embryology of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

The most advanced hair loss diagnostic system in the world

DHI recognizes that proper diagnosis is the basis for a successful and definitive treatment of hair loss. For this reason, through partnerships with European Universities, we have developed the innovative DSA Hair Loss Diagnostic System that provides a comprehensive, personalized and in-depth diagnosis of all types of alopecia, both in men and women suffering from hair loss. The DSA includes the Alopecia Test as well as the DNA Hair Biology Test and Hair Psychology Test developed in collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The results of the DSA give a clear and scientifically documented picture of the current condition of the patient’s hair loss and its ability to predict its prognosis and therefore its effective treatment.

It is worth noting that in order to provide such an advanced and comprehensive diagnostics system as the DSA, DHI works closely with public European universities and a wealth of distinguished scientists such as dermatologists, plastic surgeons, endocrinologists and psychologists.

Diagnose Your Individual Treatment Needs

DSA was developed by a team of world renowned experts to provide an accurate and personalized diagnosis for all types of Alopecia- hair and scalp disorders. DSA includes the new DNA Hair Biology Test and the Hair Psychology Test both.

The new DNA Hair Biology Test was developed by DHI Global Medical Group in cooperation with a team of scientists at the Histology and Embryology department, School of Medicine, National University of Athens (UOA) led by the distinguished Prof. Vasilis Gorgoulis. The DHI Hair Psychology Test was developed in collaboration with Professor of Psychiatry in the University of Athens, Charalambos Papageorgiou, during an in-depth study and exploration of psychiatric dimensions of hair diseases, in order to determine the necessity of combinatorial access of these conditions and any underlying psychopathology.
